Odds of getting in to an unpaid blog that you start yourself: excellent.
Odds of getting in with a major magazine or newspaper: slim to none, unless you've been doing this for years and years and have a big audience.
The odds are better if you have a niche field that you give advice on. If you're an expert on computer chips and you submit a sample column for Computer Chips Monthly, your odds of getting hired for that job are pretty terrific.
