You'll be in business as long as habitats exist to be preserved, investigated, or protected. Ecologists will always be needed to poke around sites to see if they pass environmental muster. Natural disasters will always occur, and ecologists will be called on to assess the damage.

As long as there's civilization, there'll be government. And as long as there's government, there'll be jobs for a ton of ecologists. It's sort of like a life cycle in nature...but really it's not like that at all.
