Stress
With great responsibility—matters of life and death—stress is always a part of the mix. Stressing over your patients' well-being is good in some ways. It shows you care about them and are doing everything possible to get them well again.
The downside to stress is that it creates conditions in your own system that can cause sickness. How will you care for your patients if you get sick, too? Prolonged stress is dangerous, and this is why oncologists and other professionals with heavy workloads are encouraged to take time off. Indulging in hobbies like art, music, or sports—plus lots of exercise and holistic treatments like meditation—can help ward off the bad effects of stress.
As a trusted doctor, you can hardly advise your patients to manage their stress if you're not doing the same, right? Taking your own advice should be easy…theoretically.
