Grade 6

The Number System 6.NS.C.6.c

6c. Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram; find and position pairs of integers and other rational numbers on a coordinate plane.

Translation: students should be able to plot any point on any number line or coordinate plane.

That means knowing about every kind of rational number in existence. We're talking whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, and the most recent addition to the team, the negatives of all these guys.

That also means being able to locate numbers on a one-dimensional plane (a horizontal, vertical, or slantways number line) and locate ordered pairs on a two-dimensional plane (the Cartesian coordinate system)—and doing so without using a GPS app on their iPhones.
