Language L.K.5.A

Sort common objects into categories (e.g., shapes, foods) to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent.

As much as this substandard makes us want to jump into the topic of semantic categories and related questions like, "Is a penguin a bird?" (spoiler alert: yes), we'll keep it simple with this standard and not question the foodiness of every entrée students suggest. On top of being a fun standard to tackle, kindergartners should develop a deeper understanding of these categories and how they group together related words.
