Grade 4
Writing W.4.4
Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3 above.)
Clear and coherent writing is the hallmark of written communication. Avoid the word mush, kids, and we'll be good.
Seriously, this standard is about getting young writers to make a point and match their writing to the task. With this standard, kids should keep in mind why they're writing and to whom they're writing.
