With this standard, your students will be using a smorgasbord of evidence to support their informative/explanatory pieces, specifically using direct quotes and general information. Because this standard is functionally identical to the one used in the fourth grade, your students should already have a baseline of these skills, and your focus should therefore be on applying them to more complex subjects.
