How to Earn a Certificate
You've got two options for how to earn an official Shmoop Course Certificate:
- With a teacher. Once you've completed the course, your teacher has graded all of your assignments, and your overall progress is more than 70%, you'll get an email letting you know that you've earned a Shmoop Course Certificate. Click the link in the email or head over to your Shmoop Dashboard, and click "Course Certificates" under "Profile."
- On your own. Once you take the course final and get 70% or higher, you'll see a message letting you know that you've earned a Shmoop Course Certificate.
From there, you'll be brought to your list of certificates, where you can view them or share them via Twitter, Facebook, and email. (Strut your stuff, dudes.)
P.S. You can earn a certificate in any course if you're working with a teacher. If you're on your own, here are the courses that are compatible.
For Students
Whether you're looking to show colleges and employers that you're motivated (and successful, to boot) or you just want to prove to the 'rents that, yes, you really did pass Pre-Algebra, Shmoop Certificates will do the trick.

For Teachers
Once you've graded all the assignments in a given course and a student has a 70% or higher overall grade, they'll earn their Shmoop Certificate for that course. Are you hearing what we're hearing?
