For Minors: Instruction Permit & Restricted License
Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.
A short list:
- You can't drive people for money. To turn pro, you have to be 18+.
- Permits get issued to people between the ages of 15 ½ and 18. This is the last time you're allowed to use the "and a half" when you tell people your age.
- You have to pass the normal tests and exams. If you fail the driving test, you can't retake it for at least a week.
- If you're between 15 ½ and 17 ½, you have to provide proof that you completed a normal driver's education course, likely given at your school or through a state-approved school. After 17 ½, you don't need the ed course.
