For Minors: Learner's Permit
Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.
A short list:
- You must be at least 16 years old to obtain a Learner's Permit, and you must hold it for at least 120 or 180 days before you can get your Class D License, depending on the type of training you've received.
- You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Learner's Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class D.
- Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
- If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
- If you undergo parent or school training, make sure you bring proof of that with you when you go to get your license or permit.
- Connecticut has different laws that apply to different driver training situations, so brush up on them on Connecticut's DMV website.
