For Minors: Instruction Permit & Graduated Licensing
You might be a finely responsible young man or woman, but statistics don't lie. You have too many minor brethren that make up the majority of motor vehicle crashes.
So, to protect everyone from your relatively high odds of crashing, we rein you in, especially during your teenage years.
- You must be at least 15 ¾ years old to obtain an Instruction Permit and at least 16 ½ years old for a Class C License.
- You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Instruction Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class C.
- Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
- If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
- In order to upgrade from permit to license, or in order to get a permit if you're under 16, you must provide proof that you completed a state-approved driver education course, likely given at your school or a state-approved school.
