For Minors: Instruction Permit & Restricted License
Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.
A short list:
- You must be at least 14 ½ years old to obtain a Traffic Education Learner License (TELL), 15 to obtain a Learner License after completing a state-approved traffic education program, and 16 years old to obtain a Learner License without a traffic education program.
- You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for an Instruction Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class D.
- Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
- If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
- You must provide proof that are enrolled in or have completed a state-approved driver education course in order to get a TELL, which will enable you to drive with a driving instructor only, and you must provide proof that you have completed a course in order to get a Learner License at 15.
