For Minors: Instruction Permit & Restricted License
Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.
A short list:
- You must be at least 15 years old to obtain a Learner's Permit (14 for a School Permit, but you'll have to do some extra research to see if you qualify for that one) and at least 16 years old for a Provisional Operator's Permit (POP).
- Nebraska is a bit nutty about testing. You most likely will have to take all three tests at some point—vision, written, and driving—but depending on how you came about your permit/license and what type of driver education you've received, you might be able to get a waiver for one or more of the tests.
- Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
- If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
