For Minors: Instruction Permit
Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.
A short list:
- You must be at least 15 ½ years old to obtain an Instruction Permit and at least 16 years old for a probationary Class D License.
- You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Instruction Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class D.
- Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
- If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
- You must provide proof that you completed 24 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of driving with a certified instructor in addition to the practice driving hours you must log with a parent or guardian. Practice makes perfect and practice makes you less likely to wrap your car around a tree.
