A rebate is just a repayment for some action. Like...you bought a gross of bean cans from Toot Toot Toot. The company wrote in big bold letters that if you bought 144 cans at once, they'd rebate you the cost of the 400 units of Gas-X you were likely to buy, or $12.95. That was your rebate, and that's something to, um, toot your horn about.
