Shakeout

Categories: Company Management

There used to be 18 competitors. Think: search engines in 1997. The land was fertile. The rain endless. The sunshine that leaked through the clouds...loaded. The crap piled on the ground? Endless.

So there was a shakeout. There was room in the industry for only a dozen or so. One mainstream one in Google. Bing-Microsoft is a distant second. Then you have the niche search services, like dogpile and tor (browser with weird, hidden, anonymous search) and a few others that search specifically for, um, art films. And then a few others.

But the shakeout was massive. Only a few players are left. The world is painted GOOG.
