Sin Tax

Categories: Tax

They have these in some Red States. Literally. You go to a bar, order booze. And you have to fill out a form that basically says, "Yes, I know I'm a sinner. Hi." So that's kind of a tax. At least...a tax on your time and your sense of WTF-ishness.

But a sin tax in more common parlance is just a tax levied to discourage "sin." And yes, we grok the irony of a politician taking the moral high ground on just about anything. But they do. It plays well in parts of the country. So we pay a bit more for our cigarettes or porn or gambling or sugared sodas. It's why we pay so much in taxes for the government to, you know...govern us.

Money well spent. Right? Yeah, we didn't think so either.
