Loyola Marymount University
Hallmarks and Quirks
Things I'm Good At:
- Social action. Forget Miss America—I may actually save the world.
- Law. I kill it in the courtroom, mock or otherwise.
- Getting you to see the world. Study abroad? Fulbright? Yes, please.
My Top 5 Must-Haves:
- Sunscreen. All day, every day.
- Flip flops.
- A car. I live in L.A., after all, and I want to see everything.
- A sense of adventure. I'm all about classes and campus organizations that take you out into the world. No resting on my laurels here.
- A service heart. Feeding the hungry? Building houses? Coaching Special Games? I'm on it.
Why You Might Have Heard of Me:
- My School of Film and Television ranks ninth nationally and regularly wins praise for its documentary and animation programs.
- My solar rooftops won a federal Green Power award.
- I live in L.A. It's a great place and I can totally hook you up if you want to continue to live and work here.
- Did I mention how pretty I am?
On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...
Oh my gosh, it totally depends. I mean, there's so much to do. If it's an on-campus night, I order Thai, and then run around to my friends' dorms being silly. More often than not, though: I. Am. Out.
If I'm feeling artsy there's the MOCA, The Getty, the Hammer, or LACMA. I may head downtown for an event at the Staples center or check out Sunset Blvd. Seriously, everything's just a traffic-filled ride away. This is a great area for finding hole-in-the-wall restaurants and music venues.
My favorite thing, though, is going to the beach for a bonfire. Who's bringing the marshmallows?
Favorite Hangouts:
- The Lair Marketplace. Eat local and organic.
- Iggy's Diner, which is open late. I'm so there.
- Venice Beach: Great for people-watching.
- Third Street Promenade. Okay, yes, parking in Santa Monica may hurt your heart, but the fun times are worth it.
Quirks:
- I know things can be tough starting out, so I've got the First Year Experience available to all freshies who just need a little guidance.
- Remember what I said about needing a car? Not having one isn't a deal-breaker, but a lot of people are straight-up MIA exploring SoCal on the weekends. You may want to partner up with a friend with some wheels.
- I do have a limited shuttle to get you home safe and sound if you don't have a car, though.
- Every year, I host the Bellarmine Forum. Amazing guest speakers from pretty much everywhere come to give talks. There are also performances, art exhibits, film screenings, and a lot of accompanying discussion on each year's theme. It's kind of a big deal.
Famous Alumni:
