Manhattanville College
About Me
Intro
What's that? You've never heard of me? It's okay, I get that a lot. Though, it's unfortunate because I'm pretty amazing. First off, let me just clear something up. I'm not Manhattan College. I'm Manhattanville, home of the Valiants and chock full of values. I call Purchase, NY home and enjoy being close to the Big Apple without actually being in it.
Back in the day I was a Catholic boarding school for girls that had a department specifically for liturgical music. I've since expanded and have some awesome programs in studio art, history, and psychology. Boys can even attend now too.
Which is good because I have a serious passion for diversity. Even though my undergrad population is less than 2,000 students, they hail from over fifty countries. How crazy cool is that? I'm over the moon about service and giving back to the community, too. Combine that with my diversity and you're bound to find a campus full of big hearts and open minds.
Name
The Valiants. We vie for victory with strength, determination, and honor.
Hometown
Trade in skyscrapers for trees, asphalt for grass, and rats for squirrels. Where are you? Purchase: a breath of fresh air just thirty miles north of NYC.
Birthdate
1841
Body Type
You know that Small World ride at Disney? I'm kind of like the college version of that. And it's not just because I'm small (I am, but that's not the point), it's my diversity. You can wander briefly around my hundred acres and experience over fifty different cultures, all while the same repetitive song loops in the background…oh wait, that's just the music students practicing again.
Current Living Situation
Settle in and get cozy with your fellow classmates because you're bound to be here a while. Most students stay on campus all four years. It's what makes our community so tight. As a freshman, you'll live in Spellman Hall and then hop over to Founder's, Dammann, or Tenney for your next three years.
If you live close by and want to sleep in your own bed while you get your education on, go for it. I accommodate commuters as well…even though I'd prefer keeping you close to me at all times.
Relationship Status
I'm not big into competition, but there's definitely a twinge of tension with my artsy neighbor, Purchase College. You know how they say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer? I've got mine right down the road.
Religion
While I've got solid roots in Catholicism, I'm more focused on strong values than pushing religion. As long as you've got a passion for helping your community and treating others with respect and kindness, you're welcome here.
Politics
When you have as many countries mixing on one campus as I do, you better expect some serious political diversity. I don't have any particular lean.
You should apply to me if...
you want to experience a world of different cultures while enjoying the close-knit community of a tiny campus.
