Nazareth College

About Me

Intro

Haven't heard of me? You're not alone. Unless you're from central New York, there's a pretty good chance that you have no idea that I exist. Clearly, you haven't met any Nazareth (or Naz, as I like to call myself) grads; if you had, you'd know everything about me.

Not to sound conceited, but my grads love to talk me up. They'll deck themselves out in Naz gear and talk your ear off until you've got a pretty good idea about what it means to be a Golden Flyer.

I may not have the reputation of a large, well-known university, but what's great about me is I offer a little bit of everything.

Are athletics important to you? My lacrosse and men's volleyball teams are national champs. Ready to pursue that advanced degree? My physical therapy program lasts for six years, so you graduate a doctor. Intend to pursue a career in the arts? My drama and music programs are huge. Want to party? I know all the hot spots.

And I'm surrounded with phenomenal food choices, an absolutely essential piece to being a college student. In fact, chances are by the time you graduate, you'll have spent enough money on Chipotle, Moe's, garbage plates (a local favorite), pizza, and cheesecake that you could've paid for an extra year of school.

Name

Golden Flyer

Hometown

Somewhere you better put a shovel (or two) in your car during winter. A place where you'll have to set your alarm thirty minutes early just to warm up and dust off your windows. According to Accu weather, the eighth snowiest city in the world.

Sounds fun, right? Well, believe it or not, it actually is. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about Rochester, NY. Good ol' Roch—or Roch Vegas, as some like to call it.

Birthdate

1924

Body Type

Small and slender but full of life. You'll see a friend, a familiar face, and a stranger all on your five minute walk to class. It'd be pretty hard not to, frankly—I've got about 2,000 undergraduate students and 800 graduate students on only 150 acres of land. The only way you could get anywhere without seeing someone you knew is blindfolded.

Current Living Situation

Like most schools, my freshman and sophomores wreak a little havoc in the dorms. It can get rowdy on Friday and Saturday nights—nothing out of control, just the normal amount from kids celebrating their freedom.

Students love living in the dorms, and you're sure to make some great memories in them. I'm equipped with singles, doubles, and suites, and after your freshman year you'll have your pick of the litter.

My dorms themselves aren't exactly five-star resorts, but they get the job done. Think of them as being the first guy off the bench. They may not be the star point guard and outshine other colleges, but they'll consistently meet your needs.

Once students turn twenty-one, they often decide they'd rather be closer to the bars. My upperclassmen love the bar scene, so they figure they can save some money on cabs by getting a place downtown.

While I'm sad to see so many fly the nest, I don't have to wave goodbye to all of them; some juniors and seniors prefer to live in my luxurious upperclassmen on-campus apartments during their final two years.

Relationship Status

I'm surrounded by friends. Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), University of Rochester (UofR), Monroe Community College (MCC), Roberts Wesleyan, and SUNY Brockport are all nearby colleges. We each have our own identity, but we get along, and often hang out on weekends.

My friends often serve as the moderator between myself and my arch nemesis, St. John Fisher. The Cardinals are just a mile away, but we've never been able to see beak to beak. When I play them in any sport, it gets loud. I'm proud to say, however, that we're able to put the rivalry to good use.

Each year, "The Battle of the Beaks" basketball game raises money for the local children's hospital. It's the one night a year we're happy to be around each other.

Religion

Although I was founded by the sisters of St. Joseph in 1924, I'm no longer religiously affiliated, and I welcome any and all practices. I try to be as accommodating as possible in terms of services on campus, but if I can't offer what you're looking for, chances are you'll be able to find it nearby.

Politics

I'm all about freedom of choice. 'Merica.

You should apply to me if...

you want a college experience where you can be 100% yourself while you learn, grow, and have the time of your life.
