Odds of Getting In
100-yard freestyle: 1 minute
You can't tell the difference between dogpaddle and butterfly—they're both animals?—and your favorite pool-related activity is floating on an inflatable shark.
100-yard freestyle: under 55 seconds
You swam summer league throughout high school but mostly because your friends were doing it. You'd rather focus on improving your grades than improving your times, so a club team is right up your alley.
Men's 100-yard freestyle: under 45 seconds, Women's 100-yard freestyle: under 50 seconds
You swam varsity in high school and were BFFs with the team captain. You had several different swimsuits. You upped your calorie intake. You'd love to swim on a college team and have a solid chance of making (at least) the junior varsity team at a D-II or D-III school. Go you.
Men's 100-yard freestyle: under 43 seconds, Women's 100-yard freestyle: under 54 seconds
Things are heating up: your varsity swim team had a good showing at districts and your relay team made it to the state competition. You swim on a club team and your high school team. You invested in a technical suit and add up your daily caloric intake with the zeal of a mad scientist.
You're probably looking at scholarships from top D-II and D-III schools. You might even be considered by less competitive D-I programs. The possibilities are…extremely limited, but hopeful.
Men's 100-yard freestyle: under 41 seconds, Women's 100-yard freestyle: under 51 seconds
You are the albino unicorn of high school swimmers. Um, we mean: everyone wants you on their team. You swim faster than Jaws and dream of medaling at NCAAs. With those times, you're probably one of the lucky few receiving scholarship offers from D-I programs. Rock on.
