The Golden Ratio Examples

There are 8 clockwise spirals and 13 counter-clockwise spirals on a pineapple. Does the ratio of spirals approximate the golden ratio?

First we write a ratio of the numbers given, making sure the bigger, badder number is in the numerator.

Now we divide them to see the decimal approximation.

13 ÷ 8 = 1.625

Since 1.625 is a close approximation of 1.618…, these spirals do form a golden ratio.
