What do we mean when we say it today?
You might know that "double, double, toil and trouble" is a song in Harry Potter and a Mary Kate and Ashley movie. It's no surprise that the witches' BBQ has inspired loads of scary movies and novels.
But then again the witches' meter makes their lines sound a bit like something we tell a child. Depending on how committed you are to believing in witches, the whole rhyme thing can make them sound super scary—or just a little bit silly.
Nowadays lots of people say "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble" Why? Who knows. But it's not surprising that in the great game of telephone that is life, Shakespeare's words got a little warped over the years.
