Eaten me out of house and home Why Should I Care
Why Should I Care?
Falstaff has obviously swindled Mistress Quickly. But by the end of the scene, Falstaff has talked her out of suing him. Not only that, he has also asked to borrow more money from her. When she complains that she'll have to pawn all of her dishes and her clothes, Falstaff guilt-trips her into dishing out the dough anyway.
Can you believe the nerve of this guy?
Okay, so maybe all of us haven't had the pleasure of meeting Falstaff. But we've all met people like this. We all know people who are just out there to swindle others. Who are looking for any excuse to take money or work from people for selfish. And then laugh about it—all the way to the bank.
These people think they can just cheat on a test or take someone's lunch money, and they don't think about the consequences. Well, luckily we have this phrase to stand up for the little guy. For anyone who has no power against a bully. For anyone who is pressured into giving away stuff or money.
We hate to be the ones to point this out, but sadly, by the end, the little guy (Mistress Quickly) backs down. Aw, shucks. Looks like her turn of phrase is going to come true.
