English isn't the only language to have a saying like this. It turns out that a bunch of languages have their own version. What do the Greeks say? Certainly they can't prance around town saying something is "Greek" to them because then surely they'd understand it. Instead, they say, "This seems like Chinese."

And they aren't the only ones who find Chinese confusing. Bulgarian, Hebrew, Hungarian, Dutch, Albanian, and Serbian languages all use this version with Chinese as the unknown instead of Greek.

We bet you're wondering what Chinese people say then. Well, we're glad you asked. Some of them say. "It looks like hieroglyphics," while others say, "It sounds like the birds." We think that translates to just about any language.

Shakespeare's version of this phrase certainly isn't the only one, but it is probably the best known in America at least. Today, it means the exact same thing it did when Casca first said it: that doesn't make sense! I have no clue what you're saying! It's all Greek to me.
