Lie low Why Should I Care
Why Should I Care?
They say pride comes before a fall. And that's definitely true of what happens in Much Ado About Nothing. Leonato and Hero are really confident in her upcoming marriage to Claudio. But things turn ugly when he calls her promiscuous in front of her dad and all her friends. The message? Don't be so proud next time and ignore the warning signs.
Have you ever been so confident in yourself and your abilities but then you choked on the day?
You bragged up and down about your ability to get first place or land the highest score, but when it came down to it, it just wasn't your day. That happens to just about every character in the play at one point or another.
Claudio and Leonato both suffer wounded pride when Hero is thought to be disloyal, and ultimately Claudio tries to rescue his pride by defaming of Hero. It's a powerful force that influences their actions and feelings. And Antonio is certainly drawing on it here by warning the men to take a hike.
So next time, instead of bragging all over town about how awesome you are, you might just want to lie low. (But in the modern sense. Don't go dying on us, now.)
