Figure Analysis

Rizpah is another character who has nothing but suffering and a hard time. The same former concubine for Saul that Abner slept with, she loses all of her sons when David gives seven of Saul's sons to the Gibeonites, who impale them as an act of blood vengeance against Saul.

Rizpah goes out and mourns for them, protecting their dead bodies from scavengers and birds. This wins the pity of David, who deals with the corpses in a respectful manner. We don't get to hear Rizpah speak any lines—but her suffering and her love for her children are extremely moving.
