Choosing one protagonist in 20,000 Leagues is a bit tricky, really. Aronnax is the narrator, but he watches more than he acts. Still, everything we see, we see through his eyes. So, despite the fact that Nemo is the one calling the shots, it's still Aronnax's story. He's the one who determines when and how this narrative ends.
