Ethan Montgomery Timeline & Summary

As a boy, Ethan is given a new dog that he names Bailey.
Visiting the family farm, Bailey is sprayed by a skunk twice, so Ethan starts calling him "doodle dog." It's a cute way of saying he's stupid.
Ethan meets a girl named Hannah and falls in love.
When he finds out that the high school weirdo, Todd, tried to break up he and Hannah, he tells Todd he's a stupid loser with no friends.
Todd retaliates by burning Ethan's house down. Um, rude.
Ethan is injured in the fire and loses his football scholarship.
Insecure, Ethan drives Hannah away because he is jealous of every man with two working legs.
Ethan goes to college, but returns when his beloved dog dies.
Years later, Ethan takes in a stray dog and names him Buddy.
He is unaware this dog is Bailey reincarnated, but he loves him anyway.
Ethan gets a call from Hannah, who has found Buddy. It's all part of Buddy's plan to reunite the two.
It works. Ethan and Hannah reconnect and fall in love.
Ethan soon dies of a brain aneurysm. In his final moments, he hallucinates that he is playing with Bailey, his childhood dog.
He's not exactly wrong. Buddy/Bailey stays by his side as he dies. R.I.P.
