- Violet and Klaus demand to know what Count Olaf has done with Sunny, so he leads them out to the backyard.
- There, they see little baby Sunny dangling in a birdcage that is hanging from the window of the tall tower, over thirty feet in the air. Her mouth is taped shut and her hands are tied. Uh-oh…
- Count Olaf explains that he'll let Sunny go if, and only if, Violet agrees to marries him. She's still pretty hesitant. We don't blame her.
- Consider Sunny like the stick behind a stubborn mule. The mule keeps heading the right way because it wants to avoid getting swatted with the stick. Violet marries Count Olaf and Sunny doesn't get smashed to pieces. Everyone wins, right?
- Violet reluctantly agrees. Sigh.
- Count Olaf takes the book on nuptial law from the Violet and Klaus and tells them to go finish up their chores—tomorrow there's to be a wedding.
- But as Count Olaf leaves them, Violet takes one good look at the tower and starts to think. Hmm…
