Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
The Narrator
Here's a brainteaser: Who's the protagonist in a novel without any real characters? Although the narrator acts as an invisible, omniscient voice for the bulk of the novel, her brief quest to rebuild the old Antigua Library plants her firmly in the literary equivalent of House Gryffindor. Although she'll get peeved at a moment's notice, she's sincere in her efforts to improve her country and honest about her own failings. That's good enough for us.
