Character Role Analysis

Karen Richards

Karen is a good friend to have. Eve picks up on that right away and uses Karen as a Trojan Horse of sorts, riding into Margo's dressing room with Karen's blessing.

Unlike many companion characters though, Karen's a fully fleshed out character with her own thoughts, feelings, motivations, and storylines. Plus, her friendship with Margo isn't always smooth sailing. When Margo mistreats everyone, Karen drains the gas in the car so that Margo will miss a performance.

She does it to humble Margo a bit, which is something a good friend does to put things into perspective. Unfortunately, Karen underestimates how terrible Eve is, and the consequences are more severe than she could have imagined. Eve realizes too late what a good friend Karen was before she totally destroyed her trust, saying about Addison, "He's not my friend. You were my friends..." Emphasis on the past tense. Karen may be nice, but she's not stupid, and she won't fall for Eve's tricks again.
