Character Role Analysis
Bob Woodward
Bernstein is a little too smarmy to be our protagonist, so we'll relegate him to the sidekick role as far as the movie goes. It's Woodward who is the first major character we see, getting called to the courthouse where the Watergate burglars are being arraigned.
Who here likes being woken up and called in to work? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
From that scene, we sympathize with Woodward and want him to succeed. It is him that gets the most frustrated when the story reaches its numerous dead ends, and we root for his success. If only so he can have a day to sleep in.
