Character Role Analysis
Miss Stacey, Mrs. Allan
While Marilla does the day-to-day grunt-work of raising Anne, Miss Stacey and Mrs. Allan give Anne young women to emulate, and are most like the girl Anne becomes at the story's end. They're both gentle and intelligent. They lead by example. When Anne makes a mistake, hiding her book while pretending to work on a class assignment, Miss Stacy patiently explains what Anne did wrong. Miss Stacy, in fact, gives us a good sense of how Anne will be as a schoolteacher.
