Annie John

The title of the book tells us that this is a story about a person named Annie John. It turns out the narrator takes us into the mind of a young girl from Antigua and we sympathize with her struggles as she comes to terms with her transforming body and her transforming relationship with her mother. Annie is far from perfect. There are moments when she lies or deceives those around her, but in the end, this just makes her all the more human and believable as a character.
