Gaia, Kronos, and the Titans
Way back in the day, everything was ruled by Uranus, the god of the sky. That is until Uranus made the mistake of ticking off his wife Gaia, the Earth, by locking up their kids, the Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires. So Gaia decided it was time for a little revolution and recruited the Titans, some of her and Kronos' other children. Next thing Uranus knew, he was being held down by the Titans, while his youngest son, Kronos, chopped off his dad's man-parts and took over as king of everything.
Rhea, Zeus, and the Olympians
Although Kronos ruled over an era called the golden age, he was also eventually brought down by a rebellion caused by his wife. When Kronos kicked Uranus off the throne, Uranus prophesied that Kronos would be taken down by one of his own children. So Kronos decided to start swallowing them all. This, of course, made his wife, Rhea, mad, so she hid a little godling named Zeus away from Kronos. Next thing you know, Zeus was all grown up and launching a total rebellion against his dear old dad.
Prometheus
This awesome Titan proved himself to be man's best friend when he defied the will of Zeus by giving fire to mankind. This was a major no-no, especially because Prometheus stole the flame directly from the sacred fire of Olympus. As punishment, Zeus had Prometheus chained to a rock, where birds would come and devour his liver every day. At night, his liver would grow back, so the birds would have another tasty snack waiting in the morning.
