Captain Holly Short

It's hard not to like Captain Short, but without her involvement, Artemis's plans probably would have gone over with a whole lot less fuss. She's a constant source of tension in Artemis's life and basically vows revenge at the end of the book. 

Artemis Fowl II

Artemis is way easier to target as the antagonist—he's pretty much a super-villain, complete with maniacal genius and the exploitation of magical powers to his advantage. He makes Holly's life miserable starting with the kidnapping, and you just know that he's not finished with the People now that he's had a taste of their superior technology and ransom fees.
