Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Captain Delano
Delano has the bumbling detective thing going for him. He's not the sharpest tack in the box, but he's a total sweetie-pie. After all, he's willing to take over supplies to a group of strangers he's never met. That boosts him big-time in terms of likeability points.
And since we hear what's going on in Delano's head, we can identify with him somewhat. Then again, Delano seems to be utterly unsympathetic to the slaves' plight. Morally, he seems totally without a compass. Even when he's being a total jerk, though, he's still our complicated protagonist.
