Character Analysis
Margaret Cameron is the oldest Cameron daughter and love interest for the beautifully-mustachioed Phil Stoneman.
And, well, that's pretty much her whole character.
The one bit worth noting is that she's much more reluctant to get with her geographically-challenged suitor than Elsie is with Ben. During one interaction, the film cuts between shots of her rejecting Phil and her brother's dead body on the battlefield, which implies that she can't look at Phil, a former Union soldier, without thinking about how he contributed to her family's suffering.
Ultimately, Margaret overcomes this hurdle after Phil helps Dr. Cameron escape imprisonment, shooting a soldier and defending the family from an onslaught of enemy forces. Despite their past conflict, Margaret is happy knowing that they are now united in defense of white supremacy.
Yes. And that, according to Griffith, is supposed to be a happy ending. (Puke.)
