Antagonist
Character Role Analysis
The "Good Friar"
It's hard to pin down just one antagonist in this narrative, but this traveling preacher embodies the hatred of other characters toward Kempe. This rock star friar mainly despises Kempe because she interrupts him while he's being fabulous. The lack of sympathy for Kempe's raucous behavior always triggers rude or adversarial behavior toward her, but some fellows—like the Good Friar—persecute Kempe as if it were an official hobby.
