- Villiers's son is killed by Carlos with a planted bomb.
- Villiers becomes a politician to take his son's place.
- Villiers marries Angélique, who is actually Carlos's cousin and lover.
- Bourne contacts Villiers, and the two discover that Angélique is a plant using Villiers's house as a contact point for Carlos.
- Villiers spies on his wife for a while, then kills her.
- Villiers agrees to let Bourne take the blame for the murder of Angélique in order to flush out Carlos. He also helps Bourne get a flight to New York so that he can confront Carlos.
