- Stan shows up promptly at 7:00PM. Becca talks him through all her research and the stuff in Gemma's box.
- He thinks they should travel to Fort Oswego to hunt down more clues. Turns out Stan's got a friend who lives there, so they'll have a place to crash.
- This is one involved date.
- Stan picks up Becca the next morning. He's driving, and he's brought a picnic.
- Finally, they arrive in Oswego. They're staying with Samantha, Stan's friend. Becca is relieved to find out that Samantha is married.
- Turns out Samantha's husband is on the board of a local museum. He's invited some locals who are in their 60s and 70s over to talk in hopes they might know something about Gemma.
- One of the men, Harvey, is a Holocaust survivor. The other folks are Americans who were in Oswego when the refugees arrived.
- The survivor remembers Gemma. They called her "princess" because she was aloof.
- That means she was definitely there. Interesting.
- Also interesting: they may have picked "princess" because of how she acted, but it reminds us of a certain story a certain grandmother loved to tell, too.
