- Back in the present day, Becca wakes up around noon. She pours some coffee and returns to the contents of Gemma's box.
- She decides to go in to her office at the paper. (Becca's a journalist.) She doesn't have to be back at work yet; she just wants to think.
- She walks to her office at The Advocate. It's an alternative newspaper, so it only comes out once a week.
- Oh, here's Stan at Becca's desk. Stan's her boss. Her hot boss.
- Becca tells Stan about the box. He's intrigued, especially when she says that even her parents didn't know much about Gemma.
- She tells him about the fairy tale. Stan wonders if there could be a literal castle in her background.
- Becca is like, no.
- Stan encourages Becca to keep investigating Gemma's background. Slowly, she realizes she's going to investigate this like she would investigate a story for The Advocate. Isn't it nice when your job helps you out with your life?
- She examines one of Gemma's clippings, which is from a newspaper in Oswego. She hits the books to figure out where Oswego is. (This is pre-Internet, by the way.)
- Becca calls a fellow reporter in Oswego to sound him out. When she tells him about Gemma, he speculates that she was a World War II refugee. Many of them came through Oswego, evidently.
- The reporter agrees to mail Becca some articles that may be of interest. He also gives her a tip to call the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
- Like they say: If you need a helping hand, call Oswego.
- (They don't say that.)
