Three pretty big clues that this guy is our protagonist. One—he has the most screen time. Two—he's the most internally conflicted character in the bunch. And three—he's got top billing.

That's a dead giveaway, every time.

Rick is clearly our hero, even if he doesn't act so heroically right off the bat. But his struggle becomes our struggle, and we're pulling for him to, well, get over himself and step up. Fortunately for him—and for us—he does.
