The Cat in the Hat Lines 242-260 Summary

A Butterfly Net Is Appropriate

  • Forced into action, the boy proves to be quite resourceful. Butterfly net in hand, he quickly captures the Things, putting a stop to the insanity.
  • This victory seems to have impressed Sally, who stands just behind her brother.
  • We don't know what the Cat's been doing all this time. Ever since he let the Things out of the box, he's been curiously absent.
  • But now he's back, and the boy tells him to "Pack up those Things/ and […] take them away!" (253-254).
  • Our Cat doesn't take this well. He's bummed that they didn't like his games.
  • With his tail drooping, the Cat takes his FUN-IN-A-BOX and goes out the door.
