Rousseau

Rousseau's the guy who's confessing, so he'd better be our protagonist. Even though he tells us every bad thing he's ever done, we're rooting for Rousseau to take Paris by storm (although not in a French Revolution kind of way). Rousseau's setting out to prove that good guys who do bad things can still be interesting characters.
