- Merlin meets Uncle Camlach when he returns from battle and is attached to him until Camlach tries to poison him.
- Merlin finds Galapas, who promises to teach him cool things. In the crystal cave, Merlin has a vision of the mineshaft.
- Merlin and Cerdic find the mineshaft from the vision under a hillside in Segontium. Merlin comes home with an injured falcon and trains it up.
- Merlin's second vision reveals the deaths of his grandfather and Cerdic. Merlin burns Cerdic's corpse and tries to run away.
- Merlin's kidnapped by Ambrosius' men and is taken to Brittany. He has a vision of Mithras and runs into Uther and Ambrosius.
- Merlin follows Belasius into the woods and witnesses a nasty druid ritual. Ambrosius tells Merlin that Merlin is his son.
- Five years later, Merlin returns to Wales to find that Galapas has been murdered. He runs into Dinias and is promptly kidnapped by Vortigern's men.

- Merlin finds a fatally injured Cadal outside Tintagel and promises him that his legacy won't die.
- Merlin pushes Cadal's body into the sea while watching the king-star dancing in the sky.
