Character Role Analysis

Mr. Henshaw

Mr. Henshaw rocks the house. He's funny, laid-back, and has "a wicked twinkle in his eye" (58.22). He not only gives our hero lots of writing advice (which Leigh successfully follows), but he becomes a listening ear for Leigh's troubles. While he doesn't give advice about stuff other than writing, he does something more important, and that's simply to be there for Leigh.

Mr. Fridley

Mr. Fridley is the one who gives the non-writing guidance. He's the one who catches Leigh in the act of being a lunch kicker and steers him back in the right direction. Mr. Fridley takes notice of Leigh when Leigh is feeling pretty lonely, and he gives Leigh the idea for a lunchbox alarm.
