Cathedral
- Ready for Book 8? It's called Gold Under Pike's Peak.
- Father Vaillant is now back in Santa Fe, although he has no clue why Bishop Latour has called him back from his work in Arizona.
- After a quick lunch, Latour and Vaillant go for a ride on their mules.
- As they ride, they come upon a hill that's made entirely out of a strange yellow stone. At this moment, Latour decides that he would like his cathedral to be built out of this stone.
- He also tells Vaillant that he plans on flying in an architect from France to design the church in the European style.
- Father Vaillant can never really understand why Bishop Latour would care so much about a building.
- The truth is that Latour has more of an ego than Vaillant. He needs to leave something behind when he dies. Vaillant, on the other hand, only lives in the moment and wakes up every day thinking how he can promote Catholicism on that specific day.
