Hoke Colburn and Daisy Werthan

Hoke is a character we can all identify with. We've all had to grit our teeth and bear a job for various reasons, whether it's the task itself or a horrible boss. Miss Daisy's that annoying boss, the one who's on your case for the slightest infraction, and the one you have to kiss up to constantly to keep the job. He's consistently heroic in his quiet way—respectful, kind, and compassionate with Daisy.

You can also see Daisy as a protagonist; it's her story after all. We get to know her throughout her old age, and we root for her when we see her basic human decency under all that fear and bluster. It's her story, after all.
